A couple of weeks ago, Halo: The Master Chief Collection became the first video game to make more than $1 billion worldwide.
This was thanks in part to a marketing campaign that focused on its narrative, its multiplayer, and its story, all in one package.
“We want people to buy the Master Chief and have the opportunity to build the story and build the world around the Master Cenobite,” Halo 5 director Pete Hines said.
It worked, and the series has seen its share of blockbuster box office and critical success.
Now, it’s going to get even bigger thanks to another blockbuster campaign.
Halo: Halo 5: Guardians is set to hit theaters on February 15, and Hines is planning to give fans a special announcement at E3 this year.
Halo 5 is the fifth Halo game in the series and the first to feature Master Chief himself, with an appearance by Halo 5 legend Samus Aran.
But what exactly will it be like?
Let’s take a look.
What is Halo: Halsey, and why does it matter?
“The Halo universe has always been about the story,” Hines told me in an interview at E03.
“I’m not going to tell you the whole story, but the story is very much the reason why we started making games.”
The story is the reason we started playing games, he said.
The universe is Halo, the characters are the characters.
And that’s it.
Halo is a story that spans centuries and eras.
There are no heroes, no villains, no bad guys.
“The game world is about what we want to be.
The story itself is a game that we want people, especially fans of the series, to play.
Halo 4 was the first game in this series that had a story,” said Hines.
Hines says the next Halo game is about “everything that’s come before.”
It’s a game about humanity, about our place in the universe, and it’s about the Master Team, who will become a new Covenant species called the Flood.
“You can see that the story of the Master Story has always taken us back to the beginning,” Hens said.
“So we wanted to make it the best game in that universe.
That’s why it’s a Halo game, right?
The Master Story is a big part of the story.”
But the story has always had a darker side, Hines went on to say.
“There’s a dark side to the Master story.
There’s a side of humanity that’s darker than we’ve ever been.
And we wanted people to know that.”
There’s also a Master Team called the Guardians of Truth, and they’ll have to find out why.
“Hive-like AI will help us in the game,” Hynes said.
Hinting that it’s not just a single player story, he added, “You’ll have a bunch of AI [companions] who will help you.”
Halo: Master Chief is going to be a trilogy, so it’s the second installment in the Halo series, and a Halo 4 spinoff is also in the works.
But Hines doesn’t see Halo: Guardians as just a Halo-inspired sequel to the first one.
We want to tell that story and we want players to feel like they have a connection to it, and we hope that people will feel the same way about the Halo universe that we did with the Halo 4 story.” “
In that new Halo universe, the Master-Team will become the Covenant.
We want to tell that story and we want players to feel like they have a connection to it, and we hope that people will feel the same way about the Halo universe that we did with the Halo 4 story.”
The campaign will feature a story with a lot of action, Hine said.
For example, there’s going be a lot more Halo than there was in Halo 4.
“That’s what we’re excited about,” Hins said.
And for fans of Halo’s multiplayer, there will be a new map called Reach, which was designed to be played with an Xbox One controller.
Halo’s new Halo will be free-to-play.
Halo has a reputation for being hard to get a hold of for the first couple of years, but Hines sees the new game as a welcome upgrade for the franchise.
“When we started Halo 5, we started with a bang,” he explained.
“A lot of the stuff that we do in Halo is very similar to what we do with the original Halo.
So it was a great opportunity for us to go back to a very traditional Halo formula, which we really enjoyed.”
Hines and his team are already thinking about what fans can expect from the new campaign, which will come out over the course of five episodes.
“What’s cool is that it will be an episodic series,” Hine continued.
“All of the things that we were doing with the Master Campaign are happening over the next
