CHICAGO (AP) A Chicago police officer shot and killed a man who tried to throw a beer can at him and tried to run away from him during a standoff Friday, police said.
The officers were on a routine patrol when the officer pulled up behind a white vehicle and confronted the driver who was carrying a beer bottle.
He was holding the beer bottle in his left hand, police say.
When the man started throwing beer at the officer, he grabbed the officer’s gun and tried running away.
The officers tackled the man and fired their weapons at him several times, police Chief Eddie Johnson said.
The officer who fired his weapon suffered a minor gunshot wound.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Stroger Hospital.
Police have not identified the man, who was not a suspect.
The driver of the car was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
